Three things have raised my spirits today. The first is the election of a green president in Austria, albeit by a tiny margin, In case you are interested, here is the Austrian Green Party’s ‘Program’ (only availability in German), in contrast, here is that of the narrowly-defeated FPÖ. It’s in English. It seems strange that a Volksdeutsch party should reach out internationally in this way, yet an environmentalist party does not. Surely environmentalism has to be internationalist! Through a glass, darkly
I have just received a summons to a CT scan of my chest. This is to take place at 6:15 pm at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Monday 23rd May. So there is a chance that the results will be available in time for my appointment with the GI specialist on Monday 30 May. Continue reading

May I bud and never flower
Yesterday’s musical prediction was wrong. It’s been Dark side of the moon all day. I don’t know how many times: such wonderful but familiar music has helped me catch up on missed sleep.
In other news, I weigh 55·3 kg. That’s 122 pounds, or 8 stones 10 pounds, about a stone less than normal for me. My blood pressure is 128/83, which is ok. Being unable to walk 0·2 miles to the GP surgery is not. Again I can’t thank Elly enough for driving me there,
There is a light that never goes out
I didn’t sleep much last night: maybe four hours in total. So I’m flaked out again, with The queen is dead on auto-repeat. Such a brilliant record! If my musical meanderings continue into the past at this rate, tomorrow will be The age of consent, and Saturday will be New boots and panties. You have been warned!

Going nowhere
Last blog, I mentioned that I was effectively confined to my ‘nest’ in our spare room. The next day I attempted to overcome this: I walked to the corner shop next door to our flat. That wasn’t so pleasant but was achievable.
Nesting!
I hadn’t realised how heavy doses of antibiotics can flatten people even further. Today has been typical of this week: I’ve not had sufficient energy to move further from my ‘nest’ in our spare room to the bathroom. Instead I’ve been curled up under a duvet, too de-energised to even get cabin-fever. Continue reading
Infected – again
Updates and info after speaking with doctor:
Infected?
So I’m back home, even more fatigued. I was taken for endoscopy some time on Monday evening, and was back on the ward by 11, I think – I slept through the whole thing. (A local anaesthetic put me right under!) I was woken around midnight for routine blood pressure and temperature checks. I then slept on and off until about 6:30 when the nurses opened the curtains and did the drug rounds. This was followed by breakfast – white toast and jam in my case. Continue reading
