Through a glass, but not so darkly?

Three things have raised my spirits today. The first is the election of a green president in Austria, albeit by a tiny margin, In case you are interested, here is the Austrian Green Party’s ‘Program’ (only availability in German), in contrast, here is that of the narrowly-defeated FPÖ. It’s in English. It seems strange that a Volksdeutsch party should reach out internationally in this way, yet an environmentalist party does not. Surely environmentalism has to be internationalist! I have just received a summons to a CT scan of my chest. This is to take place at 6:15 pm at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Monday 23rd May. So there is a chance that the results will be available in time for my appointment with the GI specialist on Monday 30 May. Continue reading

May I bud and never flower

Yesterday’s musical prediction was wrong. It’s been Dark side of the moon all day. I don’t know how many times: such wonderful but familiar music has helped me catch up on missed sleep.

In other news, I weigh 55·3 kg. That’s 122 pounds, or 8 stones 10 pounds, about a stone less than normal for me. My blood pressure is 128/83, which is ok. Being unable to walk 0·2 miles to the GP surgery is not. Again I can’t thank Elly enough for driving me there,

Nesting!

I hadn’t realised how heavy doses of antibiotics can flatten people even further. Today has been typical of this week: I’ve not had sufficient energy to move further from my ‘nest’ in our spare room to the bathroom. Instead I’ve been curled up under a duvet, too de-energised to even get cabin-fever. Continue reading

Infected?

So I’m back home, even more fatigued. I was taken for endoscopy some time on Monday evening, and was back on the ward by 11, I think – I slept through the whole thing. (A local anaesthetic put me right under!) I was woken around midnight for routine blood pressure and temperature checks. I then slept on and off until about 6:30 when the nurses opened the curtains and did the drug rounds. This was followed by breakfast – white toast and jam in my case. Continue reading
