Don’t read on unless you really want to know about my innards. This post is mostly so I can record what happened while I still remember it. Continue reading

Progress?
My appointment with the private GI specialist took place yesterday. It had been set for 09:45 but early that morning I was asked to if I minded a postponement to 2:30 pm. There had been some sort of emergency that had upset the doctor’s plans – I don’t recall what it was. Continue reading
Not diseased
I forgot to say that whatever is wrong with me, it’s not coeliac disease. It turns out that the blood taken at my appointment with the NHS specialist last Monday was to test for this. My GP could access the results but the specialist’s secretary has not phoned to tell me. This is despite her promise to do so once she had typed up the notes from that appointment. Bah!
On yer bike!

Elly’s Tour de Forth souvenir
There are glimmerings of recovery! As mentioned yesterday, I can now sit for a while before guts-ache drives me prone again. I have apparently been more interactive over the past week. (I’m not sure of this – I still think I’m an antisocial so-and-so.) I’ve certainly done more than I could in previous weeks, even though that ‘more’ is still almost nothing. I even have plans to do more towards the great clear-out. And the pain, while still constant (and still moving around unpredictably), is moving from unbearable to very annoying. It was even possible to talk about our much-postponed cycle-adventure this morning without falling into despair. Continue reading
Looking ahead once more
Thanks to Elly’s membership of Benenden and her general wonderfulness, I now have an appointment with a an apparently highly qualified GI specialist doctor next Wednesday. (Yesterday’s appointment was with a ‘Mr’, i.e. a surgeon.) Continue reading
Useful teapot!
My GP is fab! She phoned us well after 6pm, which for me means she is working overtime. In addition to working with her on pain management, which is sensible but is only a holding position, she is arranging for a referral for a private appointment with a gastroenterologist to consider the position. Continue reading
Chocolate teapot
Well my long-awaited appointment with the GI specialist was quite disappointing. Getting there set the tones: Elly dropped me off at the hospital and then went to park her car and then join me. She had a run in with full car-parks and an unhelpful parking attendant, by which time I’d staggered to the outpatient clinics in the bowels of the hospital. Continue reading
Nervous
Appointment with GI specialist in just over an hour. Afraid that he won’t be able to diagnose immediately, that I will need to stay in hospital for ages with no action, that there will be painful operation or that I’ll just have to live with the conditions until they cure themselves. All unfounded of course!
Update
I’ve not posted recently because there’s been almost nothing to say: I’ve spent most of this week horizontal due to pain and lack of energy. But here’s some bits to prove I’m still alive. Continue reading
