Interstellar Underpants part 5: the skidmarks strike back

So on arrival at my parents on Friday, I found that the Pismos’ power cable wasn’t delivering electricity to the Pismo. I was able to charge the Pismo using mum’s clamshell iBook power cable, so kept it running OK. However, I used the Pismo quite a bit on the train from Edinburgh to Leuchars and so probably had 20 minutes of power left in the battery.

Since I knew that the yo-yo part of the power cable was almost certainly defunct (It had been tried with my power cable and a known-good one) but the plug part was new (but couldn’t be checked – or at least I couldn’t find anyone prepared to put their multimeter across terminals delivering 240V), I bought a brand-new yo-yo. This arrived on Wednesday morning by which time the battery had discharged itself.

I still can’t get the Pismo to power up.

I’m now very afraid that I’ve broken something when installing the new hard disk which arrived on Tuesday. I was so looking forward to watching DVDs in bed…

I the following sums the separation between and I perfectly – we’re sat at opposite ends of the room, listening to different music via headphones through different music software on totally different platforms.

With grateful thanks to

  • Beelzebob for the CD drive that allowed me to install OSX
  • Pete for the loan of functional Panther CDs
  • FleaBay for enabling me to purchase the Pismo and the wireless card
  • Apple for making wireless networking so easy…

I’m sat in bed keying this entry and the only cable with me is the power cable.

The only downside is the wireless card won’t work under OS9. However I’m a very happy wannabe geek!

Yet another step towards the laptop replacing the desktop: I’ve got hold of a bookendz docking station! So now when I need to put my spandex Y-fronts on over my loons and become the mac RoadWarrior, I can just grab Swedish Slaptop from the docking station and zoom without all that tedious unplugging of peripherals….

Even better, Beelzebob (a CompSci postgraduate I know through work and a stronger mac advocate than Pete and I put together) gave me the CD module from his trashed slaptop. Time to install OSX, then go wireless and take Swedish Slaptop into the 21st century, even though I’m still waiting on the replacement DVD/CD drive…

POLL: best name for a kitten
“my answer would be SNUGGLEBOT 2000. it would be amazing. imagine picking up a little purring ball of fur and reading the heart-shaped tag around his neck that says, “SNUGGLEBOT 2000.” he could be called “snugglebot” or just “snuggles” for short, when calling him, but his proper name would be “snugglebot 2000.” i think it would be pretty killer. i don’t know about you, but if i found out a kitten’s name was “snugglebot 2000” i would want nothing more than to see what all the fuss is about and snuggle with the kitty in question.”
Thank you
