Bruce and Elly go round and round (days 18 to 20)

When we were first planning this trip, Elly said she’d like to go to Villach. I was excited mostly because it meant visiting Kärnten, a Land I’d not been to before. It’s lovely – ideally we will be back, perhaps simply to find the best water-slide on the Wörthersee, perhaps to go up a hill or two or perhaps to cycle along the Drau, all fuelled by Kaiserschmarrn and Vili.

Day 18: Gruts to Villach

Here is what cyclemeter made of the journey: trains from Gruts to Bruck an der Mur, then on to Villach. We arrived quite late, so had time for a wander into the old town and dinner.

Day 19: KärntenTherme Warmbad-Villach

I don’t know whether this originated from hot springs, but it’s a fab swimming/splashing/spa complex with its own railway station, two stops down the line from the main station! The need to rinse swimming stuff added to our need to find a laundry. Lava-Piu may be the best continental chain we’ve yet met.

Day 20: lakeside splashing

After a late de-horzontalisation, and breakfast at Backwerk, we took a train east along the Wörthersee to Pörtschach to splash and people-watch.
